The identity design for Travel Copy was based on delivering a clean and simple yet elegant logo for a company specialising in travel journalism.
The logo was intended to communicate the idea that the writing of Travel Copy can transport you to the destination, something indicated by the use of the conch shell – the notion that you can hear the sea through one – and the devising of the strapline “words that take you there”.
The conch shell is kept in 2D, but filled with a rich gradient of shell and beach colours, whilst the typography – which retains a hint of the journalist’s typewriter but is also thoroughly modern – is coloured as a welcoming warm sea.
The identity project also involved devising basic ongoing design principles, tone of voice for brand messaging and establishing the principles for choice and styling of brand photography.

Vroom Media is also engaged in a project to develop Travel Copy’s online presence.

Corporate identity and branding design for regional services company, focusing on personal finance, and which wished to ground its logo and values in being a modern, serious, professional and regional / “Welsh” business.
Clarity of logo, modernity and trustworthiness were all essential – as was a highly distinctive and instantly impactful colour planning.
The bright clean daffodil motif on a thoroughly modern canary yellow is balanced with clean formal typography from the Gill and Trajan families, and the layout is simple, structured and clean.
Latter phases of the identity, including publications and documents, plus online presence will follow later in the year.

Specialist “niche” MotoGP webzine focusing on Spanish riders in all classes and in related feeder series and championships.
Through the build and management of other fansites we have come to find that fans interested in or following one Spanish rider are very often going to take an interest in some or many others too.
Therefore it made sense to build an English-lauguage webzine that catered to this trend and helped champion up and coming riders from Spain as well as sharing news of high profile and already popular stars.

Format: fully-featured content management system with custom interface and branded design.
Service: design, branding, commercial arrangements, news and content management, SEO, promotion, reader relations, web 2.0 integration, Twitter channel setup and management, formal media accreditation arrangements.

ReferStream is a new B2B partner in the online media distribution marketplace offering innovative services to get deliver clients’ unique content direct to their target audiences.
The company’s systems enable clients to publish live (or nearly live) content directly through existing web applications using a specialised distribution and control platform. ReferStream also offers the ability to deliver protected on-demand content from pre-recorded shoots or back-catalogue libraries.

The brief for the design of the brand identity was to maintain simplicity and to convey the concept of flexible and dynamic content distribution, which I chose to do with the arrangement of the ribbons of monitor/screen devices, matched with a pure, clean and modern blue palette and a distinctly modern and technical typography.

I also ensured that this overall brand styling and ethos was reflected in the website design, which doubles as an overall shopfront for ReferStream’s services, as well as being built from the ground up to also include discreet and private client areas for project testing and development.

Brand identity creation for Get Intimate Events, a music and events promotion business in Bath.
The brief was to deliver a ‘crafted’ and ‘handmade’ logo to work with the handmade and naturalistic aesthetic of the website and the overall personal approach of the company. The highlight coloured underscore is based on the ‘i’ for intimate and also acts as a holder for other words or messaging where desirable.
As well as the main logo I designed a supporting variant ‘Get Intimate With’ which works in the same format and is used on posters and promotional materials as a kind of slug or strapline to introduce artists and performers within the context of the overall brand; but in a way which supports the messaging rather than overwhelms.

The Teletext Holidays Travel TipOff iPhone application is another leap forward for one of the UK’s favourite travel brands, bringing their highly popular Travel TipOff email newsletter to life in the sophisticated iPhone environment.
Designed for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch devices, the Travel TipOff application gathers daily updates and displays them in a slick, branded interface that encapsulates the Teletext Holidays branding DNA of “The Art of Less”. Users can simply click on the phone numbers in each holiday offer to ring the travel agent instantly or they can save the offer to review later. The experience is completed with beautiful scrolling and swiping from offer to offer, access to an iPhone-specific version of the Teletext Holidays mobile website, and inspirational startup screens which change each time the application is launched.
The project was a close collaboration with software development company Virorum Limited.

Services: Consulting on product development and specifications. Parallel brand development work. Screen designs, brand image library, design refinements, graphic assets, startup screens, beta testing and collaborative development.

Branding for a “pipeline project” design business venture in South Wales.
The company aims to provide design sevices to appeal sepcifically to the region; to small, medium and large scale businesses around Glamorgan and South Wales on a broader level.
Therefore the aim was to develop a brand that what clear in its scope and purpose – both the name and the visual identity needed to speak in a simple, elegant and unpatronising way to Welsh businesses and clients.
This was done by effectively ‘revamping’ the Welsh dragon into a slicker, more contemporary motif and using it as a simple stamp at the centre of a clear wordmark, based on a modern semi-serif font that feels as traditional as it does contemporary.

Phase one complete.
Phase two of company development in progress.

The site layout and styling was also specifically developed to avoid the end product looking too much like a “news” or “magazine” website, instead retaining the feel of a genuine blog that would be clearly differentiated form the other sites on the BatiFans network.
Bringing news and open, unbiased discussion of all brands and retailers was crucial and so the design was specifically executed to communicate a defiantly independent proposition.
The news site is a fully content-managed system with Web 2.0 integration in all relevant areas, and heavily SEO’d – down to the “does what it says on the tin” domain name, whilst the forum is built on the industry standard phpBB with a completely customised skin and branded design to match it to the main site.
